Lon Chaney (Leonidas Frank Chaney), ator, nasceu em 01/04/1883, Colorado Springs, Colorado, EUA, e faleceu em 26/08/1930, Hollywood, Califórnia, EUA. Era pai do também ator Lon Chaney Jr.

Estreou no cinema mudo, fazendo papéis sempre exóticos, como um chinês mandari em “Sr. Wu” (1927), gangster em “The Big City” (1928), mas o seu mais famoso personagem foi mesmo o de vampiro, com o qual ficou imortalizado.

Devido à sua capacidade de retratar uma infindável variedade de personagens em toda sua carreira, ele se tornou conhecido como “O Homem de Mil Faces”, e trazendo sucessos como “O corcunda de Notre Dame”, “O fantasma da ópera”

Assim como Charles Chaplin, Lon também não queria fazer a passagem do cinema mudo para o cinema falado, sendo um dos últimos a falar. Ele também achava que era melhor na arte da pantomina do que falando.

Seu último papel foi na refilmagem de “The Unholy Three”, onde ele desempenhava um bandido ventrílogo, utilizando-se de cinco vozes diferentes, e provando que poderia sim fazer filmes falado. Menos de e meses depois do lançamento do filme, o ator morreu de hemorragia na garganta.
